(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to owning our own chickens, we started with chicks about 7 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, French Copper Maran, Cuckoo Maran, Barred Rock, Americana, and Blue Andalusian is what the reciept said but the guy handing them out at the feed store called them Blue Australorp. Whatever they are 1 is a little rooster and we're ok with that.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are so much sweeter than I thought they would be and it's pretty enjoyable just to sit and spend hours hanging out with them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We homeschool and have shifted to a heavy focus on life skills. It's been several years but with recent pandemic situations we were feeling it imperative to get rolling with starting our little homestead goals now rather than waiting another year or 2. So, we're back into gardening and on a larger scale than before. We are still researching and learning more before making our decisions about keeping goats &/or ducks.
We like to do our home improvement projects on our 2 years new to us 1970s built home on 1 acre of former horse property in Las Vegas.
We are a large family (10 children ages 23 - 1 and grandbaby on the way) and we form a sort of collective of a mechanic by trade, crafters of various sorts, wanna be woodworkers and cosplayers, video gamers, and watch too much TVers.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google searches in the last 8 weeks about chicken keeping topics and questions almost always leads me to some amazingly helpful info on this forum.
I thought the forum was old and not used anymore but today I noticed it was still active so I decided to join.
