My name is Hannah and I am about to turn 21 next month and I have 4 chickens at the moment.
I've had chickens since I was about 10? We had 3 brown hens who we kept for about 2 years until we had to move into a house where we were unable to keep many pets so they went to live with a friend who owned chickens and they lived many years after.
Last year I was walking to pick up a parcel and I saw a chicken wandering around the street. She looked distressed so I took her home and we named her Clucky and she lived in our garage for a few days till we got the chicken pen set up. She got 2 friends not long after which were ancona chickens. Clucky sadly passed away a few months later from natural causes and we then decided to get 2 more isa brown hens. Unfortunately one of the brown hens got snatched by a fox and was killed about 3 months later and a few weeks after that one of our anconas was taken due to a tiny hole in the chicken pen it managed to sneak through. All was left was feathers and we never found the body. Dookey our brown hen then decided she had a strong personalty and wanted to be queen of the pen and she now follows me around the yard and pecks me. Charcoal our ancona chicken is shy and doesn't like people that much but she's very protective of the other chickens. Not long after that we bought two black silkie chicks who eventually would be adopted by Charcoal because at 7 months old she thought they were small enough to be her children. Our silkies had been laying for months and the bigger baby I call BB kept going broody so one day I decided to order her some fertile eggs. I ended up buying 12 isa brown eggs and a few broke on shipment as to be expected but the others looked good and so far on day 9/10 6 of the 8 are developing well. The other 2 we will see in a few days.
Twice this year Dookey managed to get herself attacked by foxes and survived both times. Both happened in the middle of the day and it was sunny and Summer/Autumn so it was very unexpected. She had in total 13 stitches but she still clucks along like the menace she always has been. She likes to lay very large eggs so far up to 84 grams. She's become my baby and has helped me through some bad times.
I also have 3 cats, a Labrador puppy and 3 guinea pigs
Below i've included a few pictures of them
