(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I was raised on a farm as a child, and collecting eggs and feeding/maintaining the chickens was my job. Left the farm when I was 8, and boy oh boy it's so much more complicated than young me thought. My boyfriend let me get chickens the first of March this year... one of them got injured (she cut her tummy open about 3 inches from her vent) and we thought she was going to die so I used it to weasel my boyfriend into letting me get four more (I fixed Tiddy, she's fine now and fat and happy like normal).

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

5 5 month old hens, 2 5 month old roosters, and 4 2 month old hens

(3) What breeds do you have?

Tractor Supply Special - honestly no idea. We went for the cute ones, but the labeling system is all out of whack. I know I have 1 easter egger who gives me olive eggs, and a white leghorn girl, 2 Carolina Reds, and a bantam. The rest are mysteries.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Their little personalities are amazing, the fact that they give me pretty butt nuggets is a plus.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I crochet a lot and watch anime and murder tv shows.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I work in the Public Defender's office and I am so proud of it. I have two dogs, a mini doxie and a beagle/coonhound mix. They're both older pups, and they love hanging out with my chickens. The big one is actually their friend and likes to dig when they do and then blame his huge hole on the chickens foraging, the little one is plotting her slow game of chicken murder (but then runs screaming when my rooster Lemon says wassup). I live with my boyfriend and his son and two roommates, sorta a messy family but I love it.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found it back in February when I was doing hardcore research (I made a slideshow on why I should definitely be allowed to get chickens), but only felt the desire to create an account out of personal need (my favorite rooster has a weird head thing right now). I usually prefer to lurk in the shadows.
