Hello and thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. Like so many other people, we are new to raising chickens. In this past summer of Covid, chickens became our summer vacation!
We currently have 4 chickens that we got as day olds. They were purportedly Silkie Australorp crosses but they are heavy on the Silkie and light on the ?Easteregger and maybe Australorp. We named them Marie, Milly , Molly and Maisey. Maisey became Mr Maisey and now resides happily on a farm in exchange for an Easteregger with a ”gimpy” leg; not a splayleg and not correctable. She will live with us until her quality of life dictates otherwise. Raising these girls has given us no end of joy as we learn their personali and cleverness develop. They have fast become family members.
In addition to the chickens, my other hobbies include gardenin, knitting and sewing. I volunteer at our local humane society. These activities have nicely filled my days as I learn to be retired.
The girls share our life with my husband and daughter, an ancient Chihauhau mix who found his way here from the humane society an soon, a new puppy!
I am sure that belonging to BYC will be an awesome source of group knowledge for any hurdles we may have with our girls.
