Hello!

Very nice. Sussex are a wonderful breed. Keep in mind, however, that most hatchery Amercaunas are actually Easter Eggers. Cackle hatchery is one of the few ones that sells true Amercaunas, and perhaps they would be worth looking into ☺️
I had been warned about this and I actually do want the Easter Eggers so it all works out in the end. They didn't have the Sussex so I just got Easter Eggers (sold as "Ameracaunas") :)

Aaand my first nervous chick-raising question! I got them set up at home but my DIY brooder heater wasn't getting up to the 90F I read was needed, so I stopped by the feed store and picked up a radiant heat brooder (store brand model, seems well made, only cost $40) but it is only getting the air up to about 80. Does this matter? Poking around there seems to be controversy around what I thought was clear-cut rules about the 95 and decreasing by 5 degrees a week...

While I was at the store/waiting for them to pull my order, we put a ceramic heat emitter (from my reptiles' supplies) in the tub for them, and they are quietly huddled under it. It's quite toasty, 95F under there, and they seem to like it. What should I do? Keep using the reptiles' heat emitter? (I have it behind a screen so they can't touch its surface, it is quite hot) or use the chickie brooder I bought that only gets up to about 80F? Are they getting too hot under the reptile heater? (Do they have enough sense to move before they cook themselves?)

Other than that they are eating and drinking and pooping fine, and making quiet little peeps and sleeping so they seem happy?
