i’m new to raising chickens. got a 4x6 raised coop with 2 nesting boxes and a roosting bar. attached to a fenced in run. My 4 girls are Brown Sex-links hatched Oct 2020. we have had them for 4 days now and seems to be going ok. 1 had layed a small egg 3 days in a row now.

my question today is should i buy the fake eggs or leave the layed egg in the nest for the others to catch on or they just young and i should just be more patient.

i’ve been getting up and feeding early and opening the coop door. should i not be opening the door until later?

They will not venture out of the coop today but yesterday we had a chilly windstorm pass through however they were out in it. so not making much sense why they won’t come out today.

it was -1 this morning and the coop has no heat or lights. just 3 small screened windows for ventilation is this an issue?

so sorry for the long post but never done this before. i’ve spent the past 4 days sitting on my porch watching

must say i think i’ve over fed them for sure they have had feed. calcium and grits which they spilled the entire bowl fulls on the coop floor they won’t it all the grit snd shells and get impacted will they?

i’ve also given them about 1/12 of chopped carrots peels

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. Generally after a change in homes chickens take a break in laying for several weeks. So if your birds don't lay for a while that is quite normal. If they are reluctant to leave the coop there may be a predator in the area or it just may be the change. They won't overeat the grit and oyster shell. Relax and enjoy your new flock

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Leaving eggs in nest boxes will not encourage the others to lay. The eggs will just go to waste. Collect them. If you have concerns about inadequate ventilation in your coop, please consider starting a new thread in the Coop and Run Forum with many pictures of your coop.
