My name is Cory, I've browsed this site for awhile, but this is my first time posting here!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family had chickens when I was a very young child, but this is my first flock since then!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Six. We're allowed to keep up to eight where I live, so we might get some more in the future. Four of them are about ten weeks old and the other two are nine weeks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I got a mixed flock and thankfully they're all getting along wonderfully! I have a Midnight Majesty Maran, Barred Rock, Lavender Orpington, Sapphire Gem, Black Australorp and an Easter Egger.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The chickens themselves! The eggs are definitely what my relatives are excited about, but for me they're my sweet little birdies. Watching them grow from little fluff balls to fully feathered pullets has been an absolute joy!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Theater, mostly. I've been on stage and behind the scenes, done sound and lighting, set design, construction and painting as well as prop work, most anything you can do in theater I've done and loved! I'm also a big fan of pottery, embroidery and dabbling in all kinds of instruments (though I'm not particularly great at any of them
)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I've had all kinds of pets throughout my life, dogs cats, bunnies, budgies, parakeets and a cockatoo, fish of all kinds, a turtle, a lizard and guinea pigs (Though we had to give them away
) Currently I've just got a sweet old dog and now the chickens!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I did as much research into chickens as I could before getting them. I wanted to get this right and make sure they are as happy and healthy as possible. BYC came up through a lot of searches. I've looked through tons of threads on here for information, but I've got a pretty important question I wanted direct help with, so I'll be posting that after this.
I do tend not to post much online since I'm pretty reversed, so apologies if I don't reply to any messages
