One of my runs is built from a dog kennel. Be sure to cover any spaces larger than a quarter with hardware cloth. I covered the entire kennel with 1/2" hardware cloth, top and sides, and made an apron surrounding the bottom. The door was the biggest challenge for me. I had to frame it and cover the door with hardware cloth as well.
