Hi! I'm a new BYC member, having just joined today, as a matter of fact! I'll answer the sample template questions below:
1. Yes, I'm new to chickens. We've just got started with them in these past one to two months.
2. We currently have about 80 chickens, all very young.
3. Some chicken breeds we have include Barred Rock, Ameracauna, Rhode Island Red, Sussex, and Bantams.
4. Considering that we've only just got chickens, at the time I've only cared for them indoors. We have the smallest hatchling chicks in a DIY large storage bin brooder with a heat lamp and a wire lid. We have the older ones in a DIY dog kennel brooder with a heat lamp. We zip tied some poultry netting (aka chicken wire) around the kennel to ensure the little chicks can't squeeze through the gaps of the kennel.
Back to the question, though, I guess my favorite part of backyard chicken care would be feeding the chicks their starter feed and holding the littler, kind ones.
5. Some of my other hobbies include video gaming, pet keeping (I'm the owner of two rabbits and an axolotl
), drawing and painting, cooking and baking, reading, exercising, and (as my username may imply
) knitting and crocheting.
6. Anything else I'd like to share? Well, my family and I moved to a property in the country with acreage about 6 months ago.
We're trying to start a homestead this year. We've been digging out a large garden plot and have tons of plants indoors under grow lights.
We're also raising chickens and quail for the first time this year. I look forward to learning more about them through this site.
7. OK, for the bonus questions, My sister is the one who found BYC, and then she introduced me to it. I've known about BYC for like, 2 or 3 months now I think? What made me join the community? IDK, why wouldn't I?
Thank you for your time reading this lengthy introduction post.
