Hello!

I don’t even know what hatchery they came from…the extension office ordered all the chicks and then I picked them up from there in a Bojangles fried chicken dinner box (ironic, isn’t it?). This is our very first experience with 4H, and I’m not sure what it’s “supposed” to be, but this feels very disorganized. We purchased these chickens and then haven’t heard a word from anyone about anything since.
I did some googling. Is it possible that your chicks came from Valley Hatchery in Montana?
Per the website, they guarantee that their ameraucana are real ameraucana. They have an 80% sexing guarantee on them.
I would probably have chosen a less flighty breed for beginners. Barred rocks would have been a good choice for 4h projects, in mhp.

Hello all!
I’m new to the chicken raising community and have already gained so much from reading this forum, I thought I’d join!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My daughter is doing 4-H chicken chain this year. We got 16 “Americanas” (which I have learned are just EEs) the first week of March.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 12
(3) What breeds do you have? Easter eggers
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I just love watching them, learning them and what an interesting creature they are.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Mothering, knitting, sewing, basket making, gardening.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I live in East Tennessee with our two children, ages 9 (girl) and 4 (boy)

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :Dfrom searching for info about chickens!
Hello 4H Mom and welcome to the place of chicken smarty pants. My kiddos did 4H too.
I too have learned tons from all the helpful folks here.
I hope she does good at fair.
