Hello!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Does your daughter have to show purebred chickens? Because Easter Eggers are hybrids.
Funny you should ask….we were told at the meeting this winter, before we got them, that we were getting Americaunas. I’m a big researcher so the first thing I did after the meeting was start reading. I quickly learned you can’t get true Americaunas from a commercial hatchery. There is a show and sale/auction later this summer. I have a feeling lots of people are going to be upset when they realize the Americaunas they are coming to buy aren’t Americaunas at all! Apparently the lady at the Extension office who ordered the chicks for the program was/is new and has zero experience or knowledge of chickens.

What hatchery did you order from? I know there are some who have easter eggers and ameraucana. I haven't ordered any, so I can't say they are real, but cackle, mpc, and meyers are examples of hatcheries that proclaim that they have the real thing.

I don’t even know what hatchery they came from…the extension office ordered all the chicks and then I picked them up from there in a Bojangles fried chicken dinner box (ironic, isn’t it?). This is our very first experience with 4H, and I’m not sure what it’s “supposed” to be, but this feels very disorganized. We purchased these chickens and then haven’t heard a word from anyone about anything since.
