My family and I just moved to Florida from Washington state, and are in the early stages of building our homestead. have a Rooters and a hen (she should be laying soon) going to get more chickens and hoping to get ones for meat at well.

Welcome. I am also living in Washignton, Waitsburg and we are getting back into chickens this spring. It has been four years since we moved here and I had to rehome my girls with a trusted friend. I am looking forward to getting back into this forum.
