Welcome to BYC!!(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chickens in June this year (2022) when we moved to our new home. Our old home was in a rural location and we had an acre, but the township there said no to chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6…. For now.
I plan to get more in the spring. I’m loving my new feathered friends! I enjoy their antics immensely. It’s all fun and games until someone poops on your shoe.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Black Australorps
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Oh boy! I got started because the cost of eggs got ridiculous, but I am finding that I love to just watch my entertaining little feathered velociraptors do their thing. They have gorgeous iridescent feathers and each one has an individual personality. I do have my favorite. (don’t tell the others)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have a variety of other hobbies. I like to garden, can, sew, craft, and do almost anything artistic.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My pets include: 2 dogs, 2 cats, 6 chickens, and a husband.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Every chicken question I googled led me here, so I decided to join this community of knowledgeable folks. Thanks for letting me join!
