Glad to meet you, fellow New Englander. Welcome to BYC.
Here is my favorite
intro to chicken keeping, and another article about
rooster behavior.
One article on
predator proofing new and existing coops.
I don't know if you also want material about
keeping chickens in winter weather (prepping the coop and pen,
heating water or not, etc), and an
article on ventilation, which is really key for winter keeping, but also all year. This ventilation article also has great links to a variety of coop designs based on climate, because what works in Arizona will not be good in New England!
And lastly, an article I loved about
fixing a muddy chicken run, and
deep litter bedding.
Find articles by topic by using the SEARCH button and then select ARTICLES at the top, rather than browsing the posts, which come up first. Articles are just more focused and indepth.
I bookmark articles I think are useful by clicking on the little bookmark icon at the top of an article.
Notice that all the articles are written by members of BYC, and also reviewed by other members and administrators, often with helpful comments. Worth looking at the comments, both to expand the article, and to help you see which articles are the most worthwhile.
Best wishes with your chicken keeping! I am new to chicken keeping myself, but I have a nice library of articles from this fabulous site.
