Welcome! We're happy to have you!Hello everyone!
I'm very excited to be here! I previously owned chickens about 10 years ago and have recently gotten back into owning them again! Right now I have 4 chickens, but will have 6 after this evening! I recently lost two of my pullets that were only 5 weeks old over the weekend (it was quite devastating), so I'm looking to get two more chicks this evening to stay at 6 chickens. I have a Chocolate Orpington, Barred Rock, Salmon Favorelle, Olive Egger, and will be getting a Sapphire Splash and Buff Orp tonight! The two I lost were a Lavender and Buff Orp. My other hobbies include riding horses and gardening. When I'm not with the hens, I work as a mental health therapist. I've loved seeing all the BYC articles on Google, so I'm glad to finally be a part of the community!
A therapy chicken! I love that! Maybe I should suggest bringing in one of my chickens to the office someday.Welcome to BYC!Mental health is an awesome career - I once knew someone with a therapy chicken they'd take to visit folks to help with loneliness and depression.

My husband likes to say the chicken rapture happenedWelcome to BYC. I'm sorry for the loss of your two hens. Do you know what they died of?
I'd be searching for any openings bigger than a quarter because something took them.My husband likes to say the chicken rapture happenedBut I actually have no idea what happened to them! All four of them were safely locked in at 8pm Thursday night, and Friday late morning I went out there and my Lav and Buff Orp (Thelma and Louise) had mysteriously vanished! No signs of breaking or entering into the coop, no feathers anywhere, and my other two girls in there were completely fine. So the mystery remains unsolved

My suspects were either a snake or a weasel? We just put up a trail cam, and it caught an image of a pretty big cat last night, but a cat couldn't get into it anywhere.I'd be searching for any openings bigger than a quarter because something took them.
