Got my first ever batch of chicks last April. Lost 2 in the first week, had 9 until mid July. We were letting them free range (had a coop and run for when we weren't around). Started losing about 1 a week in the afternoon. Discovered a bobcat lurking when we stopped letting them wander and started putting them in our fenced dog yard. Down to 4, a buff brahma (only one not laying yet), green queen, golden laced Wyandotte, and a Welsummer. Got another batch of chicks mid-august that we are working to integrate into the original flock. Learning a lot and looking forward to sharing!

Wow, I have no experience dealing with bobcats. I think they seem kind of cool, I guess unless they are going after your chickens! We do have a good Predators & Pests Forum if you ever need it, but it sounds like putting them in a secure run is working for you. Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
