Welcome from a former New Englander. Everyone is talking to you about coop and run size and security because you will fall in love with your chickens and we do not want you to have the heartbreak of losing them. A lot of space solves many issues, health problems, fighting, etc...It also solves your problem with bad weather. I can stand up in my coop, I can sit with the chickens in the coop on a chair, and they can be in there all day if needed without being cramped. 1/2 hardware cloth is your best friend. Use it on sides, top, everywhere around coop and run to close out predators. Maine has a high number of weasels. Weasels can kill 10 chickens in 10-minutes, kill just for the fun of it, and can fit through any hole bigger than an inch.
