Hello

Welcome! Oh, gosh - there are so many good layer breeds. I will tell you that I have mostly Rhode Island Red's. They are a high-production breed. However, they are a rather aggressive breed (toward other chickens). The high-production breeds tend to have more reproductive issues. This has been the case for us. I have a couple Mystic Marans. They have moderate temperaments and lay pretty eggs. I have an Easter Egger. Good layer, but a bit timid. She also tends to go broody. And I have a Sapphire Gem. Good layer and nice temperament.

Hello, check out this article from the Learning Center, that might help you identify what you're looking for: Pickin' the Right Frickin' Chicken

And when you do get your birds, you'll want to start with a minimum of 3 (more is better). Chickens are flock animals and do better in a group.
