I do not pay any attention to the ratios. I have had roosters who were overbreeders with 20 hens and roosters that do fine with one hen. If they are overbreeding when there are several hens, I think its usually aggression towards a hen, not "love". That's just my humble opinion.
What I do pay attention to, is space. Give them plenty of space in the coop and in their run. If you don't see feather loss, or hens hiding in the nest, don't worry about your ratio.
