That’s exciting that you’re looking to get chicks again! They are so fun to have around!!!
You know though, my actual number one favorite breed this year, has been ISA Brown.
They are a little more common, and lay absolutely gorgeous dark brown eggs. In my experience, the ISA’s were actually a little bit MORE friendly than the NHRs!

They are pretty and I have read they are extremely sweet birds!! I’d be hesitant bc I know they can also have some reproductive issues, we had some sapphire gems and they were good the first year but their eggs were so large and they all had issues going into their 3rd year that we rehomed them bc they were on and off having them get stuck inside and we’d have to soak them in epsom salt. So we were able to find a super nice and more experienced person to take them, one did end up passing from it sadly.

If your looking for quite birds, dont get Ameraucanas! lol
I don’t know what their deal is, but they are always screaming about something!

Good to know!! I think they can fly too which we can’t have bc we have so many dogs running our neighborhood they wouldn’t be safe if they got out of the fence!

My ISAs are almost 3 years new.
I haven’t had any issues.
The most important thing to prevent egg binding is exercise!
Mine are free ranged.

Oh really, I didn’t know that about exercise!! It makes sense though, our gems were the laziest things!! Ours don’t free range all the time bc of my garden but when we are out they do, our australorps are much more active than the gems ever were. Thanks for that tip so we can make sure to keep our current and future birds active!

Hello everyone! We have a small suburban flock in northern Indiana! 3 black Australorps, a barred rock, and a mystery bird that may be a buckeye or some sort of hybrid. Here’s a pic of her from earlier in the year, it’s currently snowy and frigid here! Friends gave her to us from the bargain bin at Rural King so we don’t know what she is but we love her!
