Hello from Arizona.
I am new to this forum and new to chicken keeping. I acquired three hens and a rooster from a neighbor. I got them as non-layers. But two of them started laying after being in my care. They get lots of garden greens and all table scraps as well as layer crumbles.
This is Arizona. My chicken run is under some mesquite trees so the birds get plenty of shade. But one hen is so funny. While the other birds dig themselves nice beds in the shade and wallow in them to keep cool this one goofy chicken will stand in the water dish to keep her cool.
