Hi all,

I have just registered and am saying hello.

I am from the Midlands in the UK.
I kept a few chickens last year, just 6 hybrids for the eggs and was hooked by the taste compared to shop bought eggs.
Unfortunately I was little preoccupied one evening and never locked the coop. My fault.
Next morning 5 headless chickens and one gone.
To add salt to the wound, the cheeky bloody fox bought back the remains of his kill the next day and had not hardly eaten any.
That put me off and I left keeping chickens alone for a while.

I have since changed my mind. The eggs are just TOOOOOO good.
So I am back and decided to join a forum of like minded people.

I dont have much yet. Just 2 Copper Mirans, A couple of unknowns, 2 ducks and a goose.(Goose not for long, too aggressive and trying to kill the others at times?)
I have 12 blue skyline eggs in the incubator since Friday and am awaiting 6 duck eggs next week. Just trying to build back up.

Only ever kept for eegs before and now considering meat. Hope i keep my nerve?

So there you go.
Hello everyone.

Tony

Hello Tony from the UK

I too am new to BYC... I'm in Burbank, Ca. and am expecting 4 baby chicks this week. Sorry to hear of your predator troubles. I'm in the city here, but we have our share of Raccoons, Skunks and even Coyotes. Hope you are able to build your dream flock

I haven't had hens for quite a few years myself... my boys were pretty young with our last flock of RIR's, but after processing them we ended up being too busy raising sons with School, Scouts and Sports to have much time for other things. They are off to University now, so we have the time to dedicate to our little urban farm

4 hens for eggs and a small vegetable garden to play in! See you around the message boards...

Blessings!
