Hey everyone! I'm new to BackYard Chickens, and entirely to chickens as well. I did however get six sexed Easter Egger pullets and six Jersey White Giant (straight run, fingers crossed for hens) chicks to raise, deciding to revamp the old chicken coop that's on my property. I have to say that since I started to learn about chickens I have been incredibly obsessed with them! I've been on here all day looking at different breeds and different information about general chickens! I got my chickens to be egg-layers, though I might look into breeding at some point, though of course not now, being so new to this. None of my other pets will be allowed to meet the chickens, unfortunately, because our cats love to hunt and our dogs have a high-prey drive. I might as well give you the list of names for my chickens huh? I live in Montana, by the way, so it gets pretty cold up here.
My Easter Eggers are Shaniqua (courtesy of my brother *sigh* even at two weeks she's showing to be in charge of the others), Adele (my mother is a fan of her music), Ophelia, Rosemary, Sapphire, and Peaches!
The Jersey White Giants I haven't individualized with names because I don't want to get too attatched to them because I know some of them will be roosters, I have picked out the names I'll give them though, being Andromeda, Persephone, Curry, Parmesan (our chickens will not be eaten, but my Dad thought it funny to name them after food.
), June, and Amarillo.
So far I am loving owning chickens! I'll almost definately post pictures of my flock later when I need help determining their sex. I have to figure out how to post pictures on here first though, haha.
Thank you! I'm looking forward to having my very own flock!
