Hi My name is Connie and my man Joe and I have just gotten our first chickens a month ago! We rescued them from a bad home down the road. We have 10 hens and 2 roosters and average 5-7 eggs a day. Some of them a old and may not be producing but we don't care, as long as there life is happy and full of chicken fun for the remainder of there days then we are happy.

We have converted Joe's son's old playhouse into a coop with a small run but the are basicly free range (first time in their lives!) from 9am til bedtime. :)

I do have some questions but i will look around the sight first and figure out the appropiate forum to ask them.

We are very excited and i am happy to find Backyard Chickens!!! Pic's will be posted later as well :)

We love our babies and they all have names now :)

Hello! I have four hens from a questionable home and they are really perking up and plumping out. Good on you for the rescue!

Nature Girl and Ohgrr - you both are doing a wonderful thing, rescuing chickens and allowing them a real life - at last.

Thankyou Diva and good on you to Ohgrr. They are a scraggly sorry lot but i see some feather growth on them now and fatting up a bit. Poor things. The oldest ones we have are about 4- 5 years old we are told. any idea how old they may live to be?

I've heard 5-10 years is common but the world record is 16. With some good care I bet they will be around awhile :-)

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. So great that you rescued the chickens & are giving them a good life - way to go :) Im sure they are loving to be able to free range - Best of luck with your new flock & hope you post pics
