Hi there!

I'm a new member, though not new to chickens. We had a mini-farm on our 1/3 acre growing up. We looked after stray mom dogs and cats for the SPCA while they had their litters, socialized the babies and sent them back to the SPCA for families. All of ours went to homes. On our little plot, we had a huge garden, our own 3 dogs, show dogs that mom babysat during the non-show season (Siberian huskies), cats, fish, turtles, bunnies, chickens and llamas. Then we got a 5 acre hobby farm and added sheep, 3 more llamas, peacocks that liked our neighbors hot tub, a rooster with a need to crow at 1 am every morning, and 2 miniature horses!

I now have my own family of 6 and we live in a city, but have found our own 1/3 acre and are acquiring chickens and rabbits this year. We can't have as many here as my hometown, but I still want to create that farm in the city feel for my kids. We have large gardens that expand every year, we make apple cider with my great grandpa's apple press from 1930, we can pickles and peaches, we sew, my girls knit (I haven't got the hang of it!), we volunteer at large scale farms in the community. We are a country bumpkin family in the city and its great. My kids friends always want to come to our house to see what crazy thing we're up to.

So, this is our first time with our own chickens and we are happy to have found this group to learn with!
