Hello!

You may call me Drini. I'm located in MD. I have owned parrots of all sizes for several years and have a 15-year-old blue-fronted amazon named Red (he's in my avatar) and an 1-year-old Jenday conure named Inca as my faithful companions.

Recently I've been talking to people and now I'm interested in keeping chickens! However, I know nothing (or very little) of keeping chickens, so I've come here to try and learn as much as possible and talk to as many chicken owners as I can before taking the final plunge and having a few of my own.

Aww, Peep is gorgeous! I had a cockatiel just like him. I've been very busy reading all the articles in the learning center! They've been very helpful so far. I'll probably spend my first few days on here reading them, and then the questions will start. Thanks for the welcome!

I too have a cockatiel. Her name is Peaches! I also have about 40 chickens who all have names and differnt personalitys from bantams to frizzles! Welcome to byc!

Peep is 17 years old this year. He had some sort of bacterial infection when I took this pic. He had diarrhea and a runny nose. So I had him on Oxytetracycline for the week. He completely recovered and is back to his old cranky self. LOL I have had him since he was 6 weeks old. He is very loved.

Wow! He must be pretty spoiled to be that old. Hope you enjoy many many more years with him! Not too many parrots get an actual forever home, but it looks like Peep has struck gold.


My cockatiel was named Shakespeare, and he's 4. Sadly, he had to be rehomed and he's gone back to his original owner. I still see him very often (as his current owner is a close friend) and he's loving life!

Quote: Yes, that is the thing with parrots. They really do need a forever home as they just don't adjust to a new flock. I used to keep Lovebirds too and wow, they are adorable! My last Lovebird was an only bird with no mate and she really attached herself to me. She just had to be with me constantly. She lived to be 12 years old and I really missed her when she passed. What a lover she was. Parrots can really get into your heart and soul. Enjoy all your babies!
