I am looking to start raising chickens and ducks next spring in West Michigan. During the summer I plan to have a penned in area with a dog house style house for the ducks to take shelter in and in the winter I would move my ducks into the hen house to live with the ducks where I would have heated waterers and a heat lamp if needed. In the summer the chickens would also have a ajoining run to explore.

Any comments or suggestions on how to better my plans would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome to BYC!

I don't know a thing about ducks other than how cute they are and I love the quacking!! You might want to post this question in our Duck section here on BYC for some expert advise from the Duck pro's....

I wish you luck with all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

I believe that many find that ducks and chickens do not mix well together, as ducks are very messy. Also, ducks often do fine in the winter with just a shelter as opposed to inside a coop.

Hope you stop by the Michigan thread and say Hi, look in the Where am I - Where are You section of the Forum.
