Hello, im a new member but not a "new" member. Ive looked at some stuff before on this website. Im just trying to survive with my chickens in the sonoran desert :D

Surviving in the hot desert? Sand sand and more sand in your coop and run!! Keep your run covered and hose down the sand....keeps the feet on the birds so cool. Cool feet mean cooler birds! I dig my sand out of sandy areas in washes and arroyos. Test if first by getting a handful and wetting it and squeezing it. If it clumps, it is dirt. If it falls completely apart, it is sand. Keeps the flies away too! Love sand....

I have 15 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 26 Rhode Island Reds, and 1 mystery chick. I just received the Rhode Island Reds and Mystery chick this weekend from the hatchery.

It sounds like you have a lovely flock! Rhode Island Reds and Wyandottes are both generally docile, excellent layers. Wyandottes, in particular, are one of my favorite breeds.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. X2 on TwoCrow's advice for keeping your chickens cool. If you have serious problems with those particular breeds down the road due to the heat, you might want to consider switching to more heat hardy breeds such as Australorps or Mediterranean Class breeds.
