Hello. Nice to meet you. :) I'm brand new to chicken raising. I was thrown into it thanks to a family member suddenly bringing home a bunch of 1 week old sale chickens without any prior notice or breed information...or much preparation. They brought them home for the purpose of meat and eggs. I ended up doing all of the raising and caretaking from the beginning. It's been an unexpectedly good experience and I've grown pretty attatched to them. They're very fun to watch and definitely have different personalities.

I've been working hard to keep them happy and healthy and to learn everything I can. So far so good. They're about 9 weeks old now, and the cornish crosses got a coop and went outside a couple of weeks ago. They weren't too sure about coming out of their coop back when I took pictures, but now they excitedly dash out and flap around when I open the door in the morning. I then proceed to lead a chicken parade since they follow me around. The rest are still inside for now.

Looks like you've got some very happy, healthy chickens there! I was left to look after the chickens when we got them, but I wanted them the most so seems fair! Chickens are adorable, loyal pets and have a lot of affection for the ones who feed them 24/7! They love company! I only use mine for eggs and they've always been good layers! Have fun with your lovely girlies! Xx

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Pretty flock! They do like running around outside don't they!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Love your pics you have some very happy chickens there!! I too started my chicken a little like yours. My other half bought a coop and run second hand and a couple of laying hens as a project for him and our son. I was bird phobic and didn't want anything to do with them, but they grew on me I got so much better at not being scared of them and when the novelty wore off with my Son and his Dad I took over. The rest is history as they say, the chicken math took over and then I started incubating. There is just no stopping me now totally love being a chicken keeper now and don't know where I would be without them now.

I hope you enjoy BYC, I am sure you will everyone here to help and very friendly :frow

Thank you everyone! I look forward to being part of the forums and continuing to raise a happy flock of chickens.
