hellow im supposed to be getting some chickens in april for my birthday, and i have been learning about them. i have one question, how long before i can let them into a coop and out of the house?

from Indiana! By then you could probably put them out around 4-5 weeks, although it'll depend on the temperatures at the time. You could put them in a coop sooner (the whole brooder even) if you're provided proper heat for them (cause I don't think it'll be THAT warm by then). Think 95 degrees for the first week, and then less 5 degrees each following week until feathered out. So do the math and it'll help you decide next steps....
 
what exactly could i use to heat it without burning it down, lol, would a few hundred watt bulbs work?

Glad to see moer people from Kentucky. You can get a heat lamp from just about any feed store and I use 250 watt heat bulbs. You can get them just about anywhere. I perfer to use the red instead of the white.
