I have recently become a new chicken mom. I am so fascinated by these birds and their intelligence. I finally joined this group because I get most of the answers I need here.
I have 3 EE pulluts? Well, 1 for sure. The other two may be roos. I went to a local farm and got a 7 month old roo and a hen to keep him busy. I'm in love with this rooster. He does his job. He also makes the hens nest, makes sure she gets the best treats. If he finds a bug, he calls to her to come get it. He guards her when shes laying. But see, here is the problem, just today he came up dancing on me twice. So, I looked through this forum and read that's an absolute no no. I walked into the back yard with purpose and made him move out of my way, he attacked me. Not bad, but an attack none the less. So I chased his butt around trying to catch him, but he speedy Gonzalezed me. I'm not getting rid of him, that's not an option. He does his job. I'm an alpha female, all of my other pets, dog and cats know that when I make the "no" sound, that's a wrap. I need some advice about letting this bird know, I'm the boss. Mind you, i just left the welding industry and I have always been a tomboy, so I'm not afraid of pain, so his attack didn't phase me or make me jump in fear. What are my options besides death?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Dealing with aggressive roosters can be a challenge. And you need to make sure you are not sending the wrong signals to make him worse. You might stop by the following article on working with him... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/dealing-with-and-taming-aggressive-roosters.74600/

And you can also post in the Managing Your Flock forums too, lots of people deal with this on a daily basis.

If worked with early on, there is no reason you should have to end his life. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Welcome to BYC! Id suggest a net like this one. Everyone who has chickens should have one, even if they don't have an aggressive rooster.

Thank you! That was a good read. I shouldn't have chased him. I went into the back yard and I notice when I turn around near their pen, he tries to run up on me. Him and his hen free roam. The fluff butts, younger gals, stay in the pen. I'm going to train him with my "no" noise that I have trained my dog and cats with. I never strike animals but I train them to that sound and they know when I make that sound, to stop. I noticed he is chasing one of my cats and trying to attack her. She's the only one that was never intrested in the chickens. Now all my cats are scared of him. I dunno, I love the dang bird so I will find a way.
