I think you will do fine. Assert your dominance as if you were a rooster as well, I know it sounds ridiculous, but you need to speak his language. Stay consistent, don't expect over night changes and eventually he will get the picture.Thank you! That was a good read. I shouldn't have chased him. I went into the back yard and I notice when I turn around near their pen, he tries to run up on me. Him and his hen free roam. The fluff butts, younger gals, stay in the pen. I'm going to train him with my "no" noise that I have trained my dog and cats with. I never strike animals but I train them to that sound and they know when I make that sound, to stop. I noticed he is chasing one of my cats and trying to attack her. She's the only one that was never intrested in the chickens. Now all my cats are scared of him. I dunno, I love the dang bird so I will find a way.
I just took the advice of another here. He was in the pen and I put on my mud boots, jeans, and a long sleeve. (Thankfully the humidity is almost bearable today) I picked him up, talking to him gently and feeling is contempt down to my soul. I walked him around the pen, petting his hackles and making sure all the girls were watching, his hen going into hysterics. I had put a chair by the pen, so I walked him out and sat down with him on my knee while petting his wattle and chin bags. I made him stay there and endure my love for about 10 minutes. I then brought him back in the pen to his drama queen of a hen and made him lay down and I put his head down (gently) and then I picked him back up and softly placed him with his gal. I continued talking to him and staring him down while he was on their roost. I know we humanize animals, but I could swear I felt his embarrassment. When I lock them up for the night, we will see what happens.I think you will do fine.
