Ok, we have a goat that has kidded before and had triplets the last go round, no problems. This doe is a pigmy nubian cross. Not tiny like a pigmy but not huge like a nubian. Anyway she looks like she could have Twins, Trips, or maybe even Quads! She cannot fit into a dogloo without squeezing through.

For the last week she has been panting quite hard but not really labored. Today I could hear her wheezing when I turned the corner into the barn. She was breathing very labored so much that she did not even walk away from me when I approached. She is very standoffish most of the time and normally keeps a good arms length away unless you corner her to catch her. I could walk right up to her and reach down gently and take her collar. I noticed that her tongue was really light whitish not pink like it should be and her gums were really pale and she was foaming at the mouth like she was really dry. So I walked her to the water trough and took handfuls of the cool water and let it trickle into her mouth trying to cool her down a little bit and make it easier for her. She went rather easily without a fight. She did drink some of the water so that was good and her breathing slowed down some but not enough for my comfort.

I am sort of thinking she might be in labor her bag is pretty tight but not concrete hard, but close. She is dripping a little in the back end. Tonight when I put some hay in the dogloo for her nest, she decided to eat some of it and now her breathing is less labored since it cooled down for the evening. We have moved her under a nice grove of trees outside of the barn so she can get better air with a dogloo for shelter and she is in a dog kennel 12X12 so the other goats leave her alone. She has all the water she wants and food and hay.

Anyway is this normal for a multiple pregnancy for a goat? Any ideas what else I can do for her or if I should take her to the vet or what.

I would be concerned...sounds like she's got some sort of issue. Could be hypocalcaemia, could be anemic.

I do have does that get sluggish to a degree in late pregnancy, just like WE do...and they do have less lung capacity in late pregnancy as well, but the weezing and pale membranes bothers me.

Check her ligs. If she were here, I'd give some CMPK for good measure. Make sure she's well hydrated (pinch test).

What is CMPK? I will get some. She seemed much better this evening before I came in here. A little pinker on the membranes. I am thinking she is just not getting enough good oxygen. I have been checking for hydration, she seems good for now, but that is why I separated her and gave her a big bucket of her OWN water so I can see how much she is drinking. if necessary I will take a large syringe and drizzle it down her throat every hour if I have to. She is trying, she just cannot breathe. The wheezing is not wheezing like a cold but like she cannot breathe like her lungs are squished. Believe me, if it was the other wheezing she would have already been to the vet. I am not sure they can do anything for her except do a c-section.

You
can also get an Rx version, drench or injectable. It's to prevent hypocalcaemia, and generally boost prior to kidding. You can also give her some Red Cell for an iron boost, Vit B Complex to aid in vigor..

If her ligs arent gone, she's not ready to kid...if her ligs are gone for more than 24 hrs and she stays like this - get her to a vet.

Also, is she UTD on dewormings? Is she actually eating her grain? Hypocalcaemic does usually go off feed, but will still eat hay...

Yes she is UTD on dewormings and just nibbling on grain but she ATE that hay good.

I will pick that up tomorrow from the Farm and home. I will let you know what she looks like in the AM. thanks again!

Went out and checked her a min ago. NO ligaments. None! I felt her belly and I don't feel heads but feel at least 2 bodies. they are moving so that is good. She is miserable. I will just keep an eye on her several times tonight and see how she is doing. Her teats are not tight like she should be that close but we will see. Will post again tomorrow.

Not all does will get completely tight, especially in the summer months. Is she hunching her back at all or showing any other signs of labor? Babies soon!

She is mostly just standing around. When I rub her sides she lays into me like it feels really good. I have not seen her hunching her back but her breathing is more normal today. I am thinking she had trouble breathing the other day and just really stressed out. Kind of like a panic attack. She has been calm but breathing harder than she should but not NEAR like she was the day I posted.

I am keeping her penned separate and keeping a close eye on her. Come on babies!

I still recommend the CMPK...

Do you not have a breeding date on her? Once the ligs are completely gone, you should have labor/kids on the ground within 12 to 24 hrs...

If she were here, I'd still do all the things I recommended above, and I'd also feel the need to check her internally for dilation.

Note the symptoms...and please work on the calcium supplementation.
