Hey!
First, I’d like to thank everyone who responded on my last post. Your advice and kind words really mean a lot!
One of the ducklings I got on Friday is a crested pekin. It’s about a week old according to the lady I bought it from. It’s been very active, eating and drinking, going potty just fine. I had them roaming around the bedroom this morning while I cleaned out their bin and made sure there was nothing around that could harm them or poison them. They all stayed under my bed and there’s nothing under there. I had just put some mealworms in their water and my other two ducklings scurried right over while my crested just stayed put. I picked it up and put it on the floor to see if it would walk and it couldn’t. I’m so worried because this came out of nowhere! As I was typing this, I have it sitting on my chest, and it pooped but it wasn’t the typical wet-ish poop. It was just like a turd. Can I say that lol? I hate saying that word but I don’t know how else to describe it.
It’s still alert, no lethargy, still vocal and eating and drinking. Could a neurological disorder pop up so randomly? I know the crest is a deformity so I don’t know if that’s what’s happening. I don’t see any visible injuries to the legs either. I just put it on its back and it kicked its leg so there’s that.
Could this be a niacin deficiency side effect? I have save-a-chick electrolytes but not sure if that’ll be helpful in this situation.
I’m so worried. This little one has clung to me and stolen my heart and was the first duckling I picked out at the farm.
