I am quite new to the whole chicken thing. My adventure started in March, when my cousin gave me 6 chicks for my birthday. A week ago, a dog got into our yard and killed 3 of them. A few days later I got 6 more chicks to try to replace the ones I lost. They are more pet than chicken...although with fringe benefits (eggs). I'm still waiting for my dog to do that.

Anyway, one of my newbies is a loner. She doesn't interact with the other girls, she keeps to herself and she usually is on the edge of all the activity. She isn't picked on...much. The other chicks basically ignore her. When I try to pick her up, she really freaks out and runs around the cage. When I do catch her, she does everything she can to jump to the back of the cage. Is there hope for her to become friendly?

At the other end of the spectrum...there's Poule-a Abdul. She's all over the place. She jumps over the other girls, runs back and forth in front of the cage. As soon as I open the door..POW...she's out like a bullet. She can't wait to be let out and runs for the hills. I can't get her to settle down.

Any advice for any of my girls would be helpful. Lord help the older girls when I integrate. They don't know what they're in for.

Well it could just be the breed are they all the same breed? I have quite a few that are loners and have ADHD. For me though I have a 4 year old son that loves to chase them around so they always wears him out.

I forgot to give the names of my girls. Of the original 6, the 3 remaining are Mumble, Happy Feet and Jumper.

My newbies are:

3 RIR Miss Piggy, Petie (short for Petite) and Hen-rietta...she's the loner

3 Barred Rock Morg-hen Freeman, Butterball and Poule-a Abdul...she's the ADHD

I just hope that Hen-rietta will soon join in with the rest. I feel so bad for her. She looks so lonely. Just another worried mom about her chickies.

I would not worry some just get that way she will join the others when she feels like it. The one BR with ADHD I would not worry about that either as long as you are not trying to catch it

. One of my BR were like that to yet I also thought it was a male at first that is why it was acting that way but figure out she is just a bird full of energy.
