HELP!!!-1st day lock-down tragedy!!!

thanks FireTiger!
its high, that will rise as they hatch and lower if you remove chicks.

is it "dangerous" high?

I've never had a problem that was caused by high humidity during lockdown. I've even had moisture dripping from the ceiling (I lowered it once I realized, though) and the egg cartons soaking wet around the eggs, and still it hasn't caused problems. So as long as it's not raining in the incubator, I think you're fine.

Good luck--sounds like it's all going just fine.

day 20... temperature in the incubator is 100.5 degrees and the humidity says 83%... I have no idea if my hygrometer is correct, my last one stopped working altogether, and who know how accurate this one is? it feels damp and hot in the incubator tho

and I'm a nervous wreck of course

You can calibrate a hygrometer and it takes some of the guess work out of the process.

Put 1/4 cup of salt in 1/2 cup of water in a tea cup and mix it up so all the salt is wet (it won't go into solution).
Put the tea cup and your hygrometer in a ziplock bag and zip it up and leave it for 12 hours.
They hygrometer should read 75%. If yours reads 85% then you know that you need to subtract 10 from whatever it tells you to know the actual humidity.

Probably not a good idea this hatch but try it before your next one for sure.

Good luck! We are all rooting for you.

83% humidity is a bit high....definately don't add more water in there because your humidity will get even higher when they start to hatch. You will end up with sticky chicks.....
Good luck

Is the window of the incubator fogged up? If not I wouldn't worry about it, if it is you might pull some plugs to lower it. It is too late to calibrate a hygrometer. Pip to hatch time can vary from 30 minutes to days sometime. Good luck on the hatch and have fun, I'm excited for you.

Sounds like a pip! Wonderful!! But don't get antsy--it can take two days or more to go from pip to hatch. I think chickens are usually about 24 hours, but ducks take 36-48. And almost NOTHING happens between pipping and about an hour or two before hatching.

Good luck!!
