Likewise - and I have black walnut, the kind toxic to horses and dangerous to dogs.If the walnuts were not mouldy or carried too much salt, there is no harm to be expected.
My chickens have a big walnut tree in their run and feast on walnuts every fall to their hearts' content without any issues whatsoever.
/edit I do not recommend eating them yourself. Not that they are dangerous in small quantity, simply that they aren't good eats. You don't bite into one and immediately thing "Hey, this is good" - but rather, like pine needle tea, you think "maybe if I was on Survivor, around day 30, and truly desperate..."
