Our 2-year-old Green Queen hen usually lays daily, stopped laying 5 days ago, around the same time she started to be less energetic, puffed up, we thought she was cold. Yesterday noticed she has runny yellow poop, started her on Corid. Day 2 on Corid, no major improvement. She was thirsty in the morning and took quite some water with Corid today. Is this infection or egg related? Should I try antibiotic? Can Corid and Baytril be given at the same time? How much should I dose her with the baytril? Thanks so much

The poop could be coccidiosis/Corid-related, as well as emaciation from not eating. I'd continue for the remaining three days just in case. Be sure she's not getting any extra vitamins besides her food while on Corid, specifically any that have B1/Thiamine in them.

I would also give her a calcium pill if you have any. 300mg Calcium Citrate +D3 is the best. You can also break up a Tums until you could pick up the good stuff. You can do this for a few days or up to a week. I doubt she's egg-bound since she's pooping, but I'd do this also just in case, as it won't hurt and might help should she have anything stuck.

To get her eating better, try some chick crumbles or pellets if you don't have any, mix in some water to make a mash. Most chickens love that.

Keep us posted how she's doing, and a poop update would be helpful.

Thank you! Gave her some oatmeal sprinkled with crushed Tums tonight and she ate some. I will continue giving Corid and Calcium.
