HELP 2hens injured/sick?

I think I have solved it! I just relocated my roo to my friend. As soon as he entered with all of the hens he immediately tried to make with at least 3 of them, so that’s the feather issue. The limping is from a recent coyote at the coop. He didn’t enter the run but he was on the outside and scared the crap out of my gals. They were running, jumping, bumping into everything. I will keep you all updated in the coming weeks to let you know if the feathers come back! If not then back to square one.

Yep, chicken parkour! Can you create a buffer zone with some electric fencing so Mr. Coyote can't get any closer? They definitely tend to come back and will do some digging.

I have had multiple instances with the yotes at my run, they never get in but always frighten my girls. Whoever said coyotes are only nocturnal hunters have never lived here they come out mid day, 2 in the afternoon. I will think of a way to make a buffer zone but due to the landscaping (rocky slope)around it may be a bit difficult to do electric fence.
I feel so bad they have such a yucky limp now

I see coyotes at night but on 3 occasions. I've had roosters taken by them in the middle of the afternoon. One came through at 2PM yesterday. Luckily the birds all made it into trees.

Oh, definitely! I spent 20 years in the desert … plenty of coyotes during the day. Up here I only hear them at night though- I've never actually seen one. Then again, we're on dense forest land so … we've also never seen the bear that walks through our property either.

You could put some aspirin in their water to see if it helps them feel better. I don't remember the dose, but have had good success dissolving children's chewable aspirin either over a treat- like watermelon - or in the water. Not long term, just a couple of days.

Electric fence wise -- if you use polywire- that stuff weighs next to nothing and unlike traditional straight metal wire, it doesn't need a bunch of tools- very easy to work with. Those push-in plastic posts can hold it up with no problem (though for the corners of your attempted coyote exclusion zone, I'd go with regular T-post, along with your entry gate). The push-in posts make it easy to adjust and move around if something isn't working. Do you have a picture of your overall run and surrounding area? The biggest trick is getting the ground rod pounded in ... though that can be done with a t-post driver - and remembering to dump out your buckets by the ground rod to keep the ground moist.

Anyhow! I hope your ladies start feeling themselves soon.
