We are so new to chickens and don't have any idea what is going on. We haven't seen any evidence of mites or lice. Three of our Rhode Island Reds have died in two days now. There is blood in the coop, but no sign of blood on the chickens. I even looked in the mouth and vent of one. No blood. We have seen some blood in some stools, but not enough to account for the blood in the coop. Any ideas of where to start looking/researching? We cleaned the coop today with a weak bleach solution and rinsed with vinegar. Need to keep from losing more chickens! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

bloody poop is usually a sign of cocci (coccidiosis). It needs to be treated with Corrid. You can buy a powder, the dose is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, mixed daily for 5 days. The Corrid depletes the B vitamins so after the 5 days of treatment, they will need vitamins added to their water. Also, bleach doesn't kill the cocci, ammonia does. I just went through Cocci in my meat birds, lost 10 out of 28.
