So my gold laced wyandotte chick is being picked on by the four others (silver laced wyandotte, black austrolorp, buff orpington, barred rock).. like they have shunned her? i put some oats in my hand and set it down and all of them came to eat and they wouldnt let her in.. and i noticed one side of her feathers looks a little slim... like picking? is there a way to deter them from picking on her?

I just dont know what to do to help her.. She seems sad compared to all the others.. I expected there to be a pecking order but at 3 days old.. i did not expect this.. makes me so sad..

Especially cause of all the breeds she was going to be my favorite.. *sighs*

I'm certainly no expert, but give it some time and keep an eye on them to make sure the chick is able to eat and drink and not getting pecked to be injured. I noticed several variations of leaders, followers, loners, and exclusions among my four chicks over the first week. Hopefully, they will all work it out. If the chick is endangered like bleeding or they are ganging up and attacking, you should take the chick out. But if the chick is just being ignored or excluded, don't feel bad, they all need to find their place. I'm finding I am getting used to their emerging personalities and how they interact with each other.

I have combined different breeds in the same brooder with out any trouble. Hope you find a way to help everyone get along.

Ive noticed the black australorp and the barred rock are the energetic ones.. when i set my hand down they are ALWAYS the first to arrive and the only ones to jump aboard... then when i put the oats in.. they arrived first (as expected) then the silver laced wyandotte, then the buff orpington... then the gold laced kinda sat back and observed before trying then just sat back and observed some more.. you could tell she wanted in.. just no one would let her... shes the shyest im noticing.. never the one to come over when i talk to them.. the others do tho..

I have two chicks that race to get to our hands and jump on for a lift. One is a buff orpington and the other is a silver-laced Wyandotte. One that is more hesitant but will come around (barred Plymouth Rock), and the last bird, the largest, by the way, doesn't want anything to do with us. She is an Easter Egger. She stays far away from our hands. She lets everyone else do everything first. It seemed kind of sad at first, but when I watch them interact without my influence or intervention, they seem to all "fit" together. As long as there is no violence, hopefully yours will all adjust over the next week.

so i bought 3 more chicks from a lady to add to the crowd friday.. and they stopped shunning the 1 little gold laced wyandotte.. i feel better about that now.. maybe they just wanted some more friends?
