So today is day 21 for my last viable buff orpington egg under one of my broodies. It had internally pipped sometime early yesterday morning when I candled it. This morning there was still no external pip. I candled it again as i couldn't hear any tapping or chirping. I just lost my other 2 chicks yesterday. One never pipped and the other pipped then died. Anyways, the chick was still moving inside the egg. I waited a few more hours then decided to put a tiny air hole in the air celljust in case it was running low on oxygen being that it had been over 24 hours since internal pip. I immediately placed the egg back under my broody and have left it alone. I went out just now to check on it again and still nothing. No chirping or tapping. I candled very quickly once more. There is movement but the chick has made absolutely no progress. I'm afraid at this point that the chick may be shrink wrapped. Any opinions on what I should do at this point? I want to do all I can to help so please don't say "let nature take its course". Should I try to assist or give it more time?

I checked the egg once more before making a decision. I watched through the small air hole i had made and the chick is pretty active so I'm assuming it hasn't become shrink wrapped. Still no chirping at the moment though, but I still feel pretty good about it at the moment. I'm assuming it is still obsorbing the yolk.

You might need to assist this one. I just did an assisted hatch and little Jaelyn is doing great now, she was shrink wrapped.

Still no progress this morning. I think it's about time to go in and help. I'm going to candle once more when I get back to the house here in the next hour. I'm just praying it's still ok in there.

So I removed part of the air cell and the blood vessels had recessed so I continued to pull away part of the membrane by its beak. The little chick was malpositioned and couldn't pip. I stuck it back under the hen as i don't have an incubator. I checked an hour later and it looks like the hen accidentally crushed it some and there is blood. The chick is chirping still but it doesn't look good. The yolk wasn't fully absorbed. I left it under the hen in hopes of a miracle but things don't look too good :hit

But on a positive note, my cracked bantam egg that I repaired a week ago is now tapping and chirping :wee

Just checked on the little chick and it died. At least I did all I could to help it. It would have never been able to hatch if I didn't at least try.

I am in a similar spot. I have done all I can but I think I am going to loose this one :(
