HELP!! 4-week old chicks with bloody stool

It's Cocci

My vet just called to say that in the small sample I brought her, she found 1000's of eggs from the cocci. AND an undigested mite. Crap.
I guess the vaccine didn't work.

Funny thing is, I haven't seen any poop with blood in it today

I'd get them all on Corid or at least sulmet if you can't find corid locally. I'm glad they seem to be holding on good for you. The good news is they usually respond quickly to treatment so now that you know for sure what is going on and can take care of it they should all be fine.

It seems as though we now have a sick chickie.

One of our Silver Laced Wyandottes was just standing all puffed up, apart from the other chicks. We put her in her own cage under a heat lamp, and syringe fed her extra vitamins and Corid-water. She definitely looks better tonight, although not 100%. She was able to fly out of the guinea pig cage and back to the top of the brooder with the other chicks so we are letting her spend the night with the others. She is eating and pooping, so we will just have to keep a close watch.

At least no more blood! We are so lucky that we caught this early. It sounds like coccidiosis can be devastating to a young flock. I just realized, we have had the chicks 5 weeks today. That went fast!

It's amazing how fast they grow. My first incubator chicks hatched out Friday (was supposed to be Sunday) and I'd forgotton how quickly they grow. I hope your SLW continues to get better. I have three in my flock and they are such pretty girls.

The little SLW looked ok this morning. She was so sweet last night. i opened the top to the brooder and she flew to the top, and then ran up my arm to sit by my neck. She had been a timid little thing, but she is getting very friendly. I cannot believe how friendly the chicks are. I had no idea when that I would get so attached to them. I have 8 guinea pigs, so the chickens were my husband's idea. We have 41, but are supposed to be raising half for a neighbor. I really don't know how I am going to give any of them up. The little SLW was supposed to be part of the group leaving, but I think i have to keep her. The SLW's are my favorite so far. They have very strong personalities.

Good luck with your little chicks! How many did you hatch?
