This is the knot it's yellow
400

This is how large it is
400

If someone on here could tell:
A) me what it is
B) how to fix it
C) how chicks get it

I would be very appreciative

The crop looks very large like the chick has eaten very well in the second picture. I'm not sure what the yellow knots are unless from pecking. The crop should decrease in size after the chick has digested some food. Keeping them on paper towel for a week or so will prevent them from eating pine shavings until they know what their food is.

The pics are of the same chick. I just pulled the feathers back so you could see the yellow.
oh! I was told to take out the news paper after the first day by the hatchery to prevent leg problems. I will put it back in though. I sure don't want to lose any chicks if I can prevent it.
I take that i don't need to be too concerned about the crop being that large?

Thanks for the help. I was really worried something bad was wrong.

Paper towel, not newspaper. Newspaper is too slippery for chicks. Look to see if the chick has been eating pine shavings. They can block the crop.

Give a lot of water and massage crop in a downward motion. Olive oil 1/2 tsp may help, but may not. If the crop is blocked, I would withhold food for a few hours to see if the crop goes down. Is the crop larger than the other chicks? Since they are so small, their crops can appear very large, but if it is hard there may be blockage. A woman on here recently had to put a 10 day old chick down because she couldn't get the blockage to move.

Just wanted to give an update....

All 27 chicks are doing great.
I massaged everyones crop at the end of the day. Just before I went to bed I removed the feeder from the brooder (Since I had to get up about 6 hours later).
I checked everyone out the next morning, and just as y'all said their crops were empty.

Very thankful it was a lot of worry for a little of nothing.

thanks for all the help

I'm so glad that the situation was resolved so well. Oh, and might I add that there's nothing that should be ignored if you think it doesn't look, sound, smell or seem right. I'd rather ask a million questions about things that turn out to be a "little of nothing" than not ask a question and miss a little thing that turned into a big somEthing!
