Hello, everyone. I thank you all for reading and helping, if possible. Our rooster, Jay, is suffering. I believe he has an upper respiratory infection. His symptoms are as follows:
1) Wheezing
2) Muddled, soft, squeaky crow
3) Lethargy
4) BLACK comb and wattles where they used to be beautiful, bright red. These changed overnight from vibrant red to blackish blue.
5) Vibrant, white feathers have turned greyish yellow. He could have been under the coop a lot yesterday but he's an odd color today.
His poops are runny but white, NOT green.
He can stand but he's TIRED. We took him to the vet this morning and she recommended we take him to the university to be put down and analyzed. We brought him home in the hopes he would be saved. Here is a picture of his current state and before he fell ill.
Does anyone know what this is or what we can do? The vet did reluctantly give us 2 500 mg capsules of tetracycline and told us to give him 1/10 of a capsule once a day if we would even take it. We are at a loss and don't even know where to begin. I've got a warm humidifier in his quarantine room right now with some VetRX in it.
ANYONE? We love him so very much!
