This is what i do. I wait until the new birds are just about as big as the older girls. (yes, it means much longer brooding time..but i think there is less chance of major injuries that way..) Then, when i introduce them..i have a big dog crate..i put the new birds in the crate and put the crate inside my coop..i leave the new birds in this crate for up to a week..so the 2 groups have plenty of time to get used to seeing each other...
then one NIGHT at roosting time i take the new birds out of the crate and put them on a roost...then i walk away...i dont stress about it...unless there are MAJOR injuries. They need to work out their own flock pecking order..and they always have..so far..
