I purchased a Genesis 1588, thinking it would be easy to use. I've found this so difficult to set the temp on this thing. It's supposed to be preset, but mine is reading 100.8 without the egg turner and 102.4 with the egg turner! Way too hot! So, I've been trying to make sense of these crazy directions and now it's too low. Argh!!! I purchased a Brinsea 20 Advanced now, but would still like to use the Genesis 1588 as a hatcher. Does anyone have experience adjusting this thing???

Mine was a little too high too. My husband set it for me. When you are looking at the thermostat, have the first two buttons down toward the paper, and the third one away, then the rest of the the same direction as the first two. I hope this makes sense, if not PM me and I'll see if I can help!

I don't know where you're putting your thermometer, but if you put it near the turner's motor, it will read much higher. Put the thermometer at the opposite end of the motor and see how it reads.

In the instructions, there is a number you can call to the company for help.

Good luck.

Is there any chance your thermometer is off?

I called the company for the same reason last week. The guy I talked to was so rude, he told me to send it back for repairs. Well I had eggs in it and could not send it back. I had my husband set it. It now stays at a steady 100, He just put it back to factory settings. Not sure how he did it and either is he. I hope you dont get the same rude man I talked to.

Oh that is awful! I can't understand how they could have someone rude on their help line!

That mkes me angry.

I was really upset when I got of the phone. He didnt seem to care that I had a full incubator. I think the directions are really written badly.

I guess I should be happy that I wasn't able to reach anyone with Technical Support. Their phone goes to an answering maching, saying they are not able to help right now. The directions are horrible and I'm not impressed at all. I've tried returning to factory setting, but it still reads 100.8. So, I've been playing with the toggle switches. We're finally going in the right direction. My husband is seriously wondering why I purchased this over the LG (which, we will also be returning). I'd return the Hovabator, but I bought it on EBay and there are no returns.

My 1588 fluctuates between 98 and 99.5
What do you think of the Brinsea 20 Advanced?
I was thinking of getting one and using the 1588 as a hatcher.
Are they real accurate?
How are your hatches?
Are you pleased with it?

What do you think of the Brinsea 20 Advanced?
I'll let you know. I have my first eggs hatching next weekend; however, these were transplanted from my horrible LG and 1588. I have a new set of eggs, which will be going in tomorrow.

I was thinking of getting one and using the 1588 as a hatcher.
This is exactly what I decided to do, if I can get the temp right in the 1588.

Are they real accurate?
The Brinsea has been great so far. Put it together, plugged it in, and it heated up within 30 minutes to the exact temp 99.5. It's been holding steady. The only downside is it's been a little extra humid about 50%, but I think it has to do with our weather here. If I had purchased the EX, it would control the humidity for me as well. I couldn't justify the price difference (yet). It's been non stop raining in SC for the last week, so the air is extra humid. Hopefully, it won't effect the chicks too much.

How are your hatches?
I'll let you know.

Are you pleased with it?
So far, I couldn't be more pleased. It's easy to use, plug it in and it does everything for you.
