Last Saturday I bought 20 ass. rainbow layers and 5 turkens form my local Orslans. 1 chick died within the hour of getting it home and then another died that evening. The next day 1 chick died and then the next day another died. Yesterday I posted about chick with nasty bottom and it shortly died after. This morning I checked on them and I saw a weak chick with nasty bottom so I started looking at all of them and all but 7 had nasty bottoms. I have only ever fed them medicated chick starter. I now have washed everyones bottom and started them on electorlites and gave them some parakeet grit. Before I started them on the electros and grit I noticed several of the chicks have Bloody, runny poo. I went to Orslans today and noticed that all the rest of the assorted rainbow layers all have nasty bottoms. I know that last Saturday when I got mine they had just come from C.M Este Hatchery in Mo. The rainbows that were there today also came in that shipment. Any advice what I should do differently? Any idea what is going on with my babies?

Why are you giving them grit? Grit is for grinding food in the gizzard.

The electrotyes in water is good. You don't need sugar water. Sugar water will make the runny poop worse.

With warm water wash all of their bottoms nice and clean. Put a bit of vaseline around the vent to keep the poop from pasting up on them.

Keep them warm.

Try feeding them a little plain yogurt with cook white rice or cooked oatmeal and see if that will help tighten up the poops. If so gibe them only chick starter. I wouldn't feed them medicated starter.

Personally I would demand a refund for all the chicks because they are all sick. I would call the hatchery and report it is well.

Don't bring in any other chicks until this problem is resolved and everything is sanitized.

If you want a specific diagnosis call a vet or your state vet for a necropsy.

I don't remember who told me but someone told me to give them grit. I washed everyones bottom and did put vasoline on them cause my Grandma told me to. Thanks for the advice. I so appriciate it.
