How funny. I guess there are as many opinions as there are computer brands.
DH bought an emachine for his ex and hated it. Then again it could have been that he hated the operator.

My eight year old gateway is just starting to slow down, but that's cuz I messed up and added some programs too big for it to run quickly.

PCs are not so much like an automobile as they are a cart of parts. The most important aspect beyond adequate selection of these parts is QC. Is the technician drinking beer and eating a mustard filled hotdog while assembling these parts? For the most part, Intel or AMD makes the worlds chips, Seagate and and handful of others make the drives and these go in bulk.

I have owned most of the brands mentioned and they all work reasonably well and will continue to do so if maintained. Slower than new operating speeds for example is software driven usually.

Buy American - is that possible with a PC?

This one s made i n china. You can tell by the instructions too cause somethings lost in the translation. Not to, Ok getting off the subject I have a friend who along with others is losing his job cause they are going over to India. Which by the way has a "caste" system of belief. Which means they believe some people are born better than others.
Back on subject I intend to by another computer just in case.

We had an Emachine at one point and I would not recommend it. We hated it and it had so many problems all the time. They are junk! We endend up getting a Dell Desktop and Love it. Had it now for 2 yrs with no problems. We paid around $700 or so.
