Help!!! Are there roosters in the mist???

We are new to having chickens and purchased 8 at a local farm and home store towards end of a 'chick days' sale. Breeds and size were consolidated and mixed. Our boys picked out their favorites. This was back in May. Well.....over the past couple weeks the grey one has developed a larger comb then the others and has started crowing, and the multi color one has really long and pretty tail feathers. I have read that some hens can have larger combs and crow if no rooster is present......but i am starting to think that the grey one is a rooster. Is the multi color one a rooster as well? We also have a couple reddish ones and a couple whitish ones. Any help on breed will also be appreciated. When we purchased from farm store, they said all were pullets. We cant have roosters where we live and were hoping for some eggs real soon, but if they are rooster we might be having roasted chicken instead. Thanks,

You are totally right! The two you mentioned are Roosters! No way they are hens!!!

Cock-a-roodle-roos! Yes, both birds mentioned above are cockerels. While it is true that sometimes a hen will crow, those birds are older, mature birds and it is not nearly as common as the internet can lead you to believe. Your birds are young birds just coming into chicken puberty. Crowing aside, both birds are showing very clear male characteristics in their feather structure - the easiest example is your Easter Egger boy, see his long, flowing "Fabio feathers" on his neck and where his tail meets the back (the saddle) -- those are unique to males and you can see how they differer from the feathers on the same areas of your girls.

If you don't want to have a chicken dinner, you can fit 'em with No Crow collars. I have them on my boys, and with the exception of one who refuses to be silenced, they're quieter than my hens.
That being said, my Easter Eggers boys are penned to keep them away from my hens as they are far too aggressive with the ladies for my taste. I've never known a nice Easter Egger boy.
